About me

My name is Joanna Kara and I am an artist specializing in embroidery, painting, mixed media and graphic design. Born in Poland and now living in Turkey, I draw inspiration from the rich diversity of cultures and colors that surround me.

In my embroidery work, I explore the interplay of textures and emotions, and one of my most personal projects is a series titled Refreshing Memories. In this collection, I stitch the most important moments of my life onto fragments of tulle using black thread. Each piece captures a significant memory, such as the first days after my son’s birth or moving to a new city. The collection is ever-growing and is available to view in the gallery on my website.

In my artistic process, I love to experiment with materials that offer endless possibilities for expression. Tulle and painting canvas are my favorite mediums. I also frequently incorporate wool and metallic threads into my work.

In addition to embroidery and mixed media art, I design graphic projects such as book covers, business cards, and posters. In addition to embroidery and mixed media art, I design graphic projects such as book covers, business cards, and posters. Most of my designs are created using Adobe Illustrator. I also enjoy transforming my original works, such as paintings or embroidery, into vector art.

All of my creations—no matter the medium—reflect my personal perspective and subjective view of the world. I enjoy blending abstraction with subtle touches of realism, creating works that invite viewers to discover and interpret them in their own way. I also love painting portraits, but they always include an element of my own perception of the person I’m portraying.
