Joanna Kara
Artist Statement

In my work, I combine acrylic paint, thread, and layered transparent materials to create compositions that explore rootedness, fragility, belonging, and the traces people carry within themselves.

Through dimensional stitching, I build intuitive structures and tangled, root-like pathways that reflect memory, emotional complexity, and life path.

Color plays an essential role in my work. I am particularly drawn to the relationship between cool blues and soft pink tones, which I associate with inner bloom, emotional unfolding, and the feeling of being grounded within a place, relationship, or memory.

Transparent layers of tulle allow light to pass through the surface of the work, while threads and stitches cast delicate shadows that become part of the composition itself.
